Man sets himself on fire...
My husband was walking down the street in downtown Portland when he looked up and about a block up the road could see a huge ball of fire with large amounts of smoke, his first thought "there is a building on fire" then he noticed the ball of fire moving back and forth across the street. He then started running a little faster up the street when he could then hear screaming "help, help me"
A man set himself on fire in front of the fur store aparently he was protesting the store, Brian said he had tried to run inside of the store not realizing that it was not even open....
There were people standing all around just watching this man running around completely on fire, all of his clothes had burned off of him by the time my husband had reached him. A police officer was standing near by screaming for help and yelling at the man to get on the ground, nobody wanted to touch him.
Brian pulled his own coat off and began putting the man out himself, he completely melted his coat and said it was one of the most horrible things he had ever seen.
In my eyes my husband is a hero this isnt the first time he has ran to help a complete stranger, I'm so proud:)
This is a picture of Brian putting the man out.

- I had my first daughter Madison Marie when I was 21 years old, she is now a beautiful six year old who started kindergarden this year. I had my next daughter when I was 23. We named her Mackenzie Rose. Kezie will be four on the 15 of december, she told me today when she grows up she wants to be a princess:) Our third and final child another girl came when I was 25 we named her Makayla Mae, she just turned two in August. We were trying for a boy each and everytime but know I'm so glad I ended up with three little princesses.
Eric told me about this before I had the chance to read it. That's pretty awesome... I mean that Brian didn't even think before he helped the man!
ReplyDeleteit's totally heartbreaking. i'm so thankful that Brian was there and helped him as much as he could. i hope he is doing okay...the imagery and the horror of it must be awful. give him a hug for us and tell him we are proud of him for doing what he could.

That's so insane. I can't believe everyone just stood there. We learned about this in college psychology...it's called diffusion of responsibility. Everyone thinks someone else will do something so no one does antything. Glad Brian stepped up. Brave hubby you've got.
ReplyDeleteAlso...so
funny remembering my mom making us lunches. She's cute like that. She still madey lunches even when I lived at home during summers back from college when I was working. I guess she'll just always be a nurturer :).
And you should definitely get some pretty china for tea parties. I love red white and blue. That's the main thrift store I like to hit up. Maybe when you get free time we can go thrifting together :)
What gets me about this story is they are giving all the credit to the cops saying they were the ones who helped the guy they we not...Brian and the man in the passing car who had a fire extinguisher were the ones who put the man out the cops just stood by the side of the road calling on their radio for help....why take credit for something you didn't do...I wanted Brian to do the interview but he wouldn't...oh well I guess...its just a really crazy sad story....
